  • Reception and Nursery Classes Ditch Plastic Straws!

Fri 30 Nov 2018 Ms Harris

In a bid to be more environmentally friendly, Seahorse, Clownfish and Shrimps have ditched little cartons of milk with plastic straws for their milk time and now have reusable beakers and big bottles of milk.

Tom said "Cups of milk are better because straws don't break down"

Jayden said "We can have cups of milk because we are being sensible".

Ellie said "Having cups of milk is better for the planet"

Well done to those classes for setting such a good example to us all about simple ways we can help protect our planet :)

  • Mrs Nicolson to the Rescue

Mon 09 Oct 2017 Ms Harris

On Friday afternoon at home time, Mrs Nicolson saw a hedgehog on the path near the Mission Hall. Having heard recently that if you see a hedgehog during the day then something is wrong (as they are nocturnal they should not be out in the day) she decided it needed help. Using a parent's woolly scarf to wrap it up, she tried to keep it warm. When all the children had left, she went to the school office to phone to get some advice on how to look after it. The office ladies found a box and put in some lovely shredded paper bedding. Then Mrs Nicolson and the hedgehog headed off to the Isle of Wight.

When she got home, Mrs Nicolson gave it some dog food for dinner and it was very hungry.

On Sunday a lady from Isle of Wight Hedgehog Rescue came .She said it was a girl hedgehog aged about 3 months. She took it away to look after over the winter when it should really be hibernating.

    What a lucky hedgehog!!

    Here are some photos :)

  • Greedy Reading Day Special Visitor

Wed 27 Sep 2017 Ms Harris & Miss Ennew

St John's have kicked off another year of Greedy Reading with a very special visitor. Not only were we lucky enough to have our parents come in and read with us, we also got to meet a famous author! Ali Sparkes came into our school to announce that she will be our Patron of Reading this year. She will be coming in to do workshops across the school and promote a love of reading and writing. We enjoyed her visit so much that there's no more of her books left in our library - we're all reading them! After her whole school presentation, Year 5 and 6 had an X Factor workshop with her and created their own blurbs and openings to  a story and as they were so inspired, they continued this well into the afternoon. If you come into our library next week you will be lucky enough to read their blurbs and see their front covers. Which one will be your favourite?
